The hearing was scheduled for 10:15, but the judge also happened to have scheduled a bunch of other stuff at the same time.

So, I pulled out my copy of The Practice (not even joking) and read for a couple of hours and watched sentencing hearings.

We get done the hearing and I get my phone back hours later. "I texted you an hour ago! Are you alive? I sent you a Facebook message on Sunday at 8:30pm and you didn't reply! Are you ignoring me?"

Technology is good. I like Google Scholar, having a Kindle library, and being able to work from the pool instead of at my office. Angry Birds is fun.

But thinking back to the talk you gave in Philly, it's made communication suck. Everyone thinks you're available 24/7, and it's okay to text you on Sunday night at 7:45pm to ask what's going on in their case, and they want a response right this second.

I've found that I have to be very disciplined about making clients schedule calls with me, instead of answering my phone off the cuff. And yes, I have a life outside my law practice, which is why I don't normally take calls on a Sunday afternoon if they are work related. Terrible, I know.
