This is great. I have had many of these same conversations.

Those were the three marketing gurus who gave CLEs at the ABA Annual Convention. Thank God Alexis Neely is finally doing something about that hair.

When you buy a CD or a dinner, you are getting a known quantity or item. When you hire a lawyer you are taking out a second mortgage on your house on the POSSIBILITY that the lawyer MAY (or may not) do what he is supposed to do. That is the difference. That lawyer is no accountable to anyone, after taking your life savings, for failing to provide the service they agree to. And you are compelled to hire them or you cannot navigate the legal system. Then you guys wonder why people don't like lawyers?

While these negotiations would go on, the lawyer would be running up a $500 an hour tab for the time they spent negotiating. And the client would be chained to a table that would cost an additional fee to get free from. Their dinner and hair cut would soon cost tens of thousands to you know who. Sorry, the real leeches went to law school.
